Learn to sing the blues

David Judson Clemmons

To Sing The Blues
I hear I owe
a lot of people a lot of things
that I let my rivers flow
into the big, big streams
I only wanted to try it
and then I liked it
then they called us a family
looked at us differently
Now I'm gonna try
to give everybody something
until I don't owe
anybody anything
yeah we lived and we lied there
we tricked and we cried there
now we burned the roads behind us
we just killed the life inside us
So when I'm finally sane I'll just walk out of this place
go back and find the place where I come from
but I'll hold the loves I've found
carry them everywhere I go
get to back to be the one that I once was
You don't have to share my faith
to sing the blues the way I do
destroy your life, for someone new
you can learn to sing the blues the way I do
Now it's good to be home
it's good just to be anywhere
but I still feel alone
but I could feel that way everywhere
you only wanted to try me
then you kind of liked me
they called us a family
started to look at us differently
Now love's just another trick of our mind
to paintl us with illusion and steal our time
let your wings fly you deeper inside
you let them land you alone upon my door
you don't have to share my faith
to sing the blues the way I do
destroyed your life, that's nothing new
learned to sing the blues the way I do
